The gospel is the core message of christianity and indispensable for a correct understanding of the Bible. Briefly put, the gospel is the good news of Jesus Christ. Every person is by nature an enemy of God. Sin reigns over every person from childhood onward. Therefore everyone is by nature set against God’s will; no-one demonstrates the desire to accomplish God’s will. Every good work which one does in one’s life cannot suffice to restore relationship with God. That is exactly why Jesus came into the world. God gave his only Son out of love, so that he might create a way of escape from this situation. Jesus walked on the earth as a man for three years to ultimately die and to bear the sins of the world. He was crucified, buried, and rose again from the dead three days later, so that mankind would once again have access to God. Now everyone who believes in Jesus Christ as the Son of God is reconciled with God. The sin which once separated him from God is propitiated and the relationship is restored. A Christian lives in the consciousness that Jesus has paid for his sins. Sin no longer reigns over him and he is now capable of living a life pleasing to God. Through his salvation, his life gains a new perspective and the hope of spending eternity with God Himself. What he is already able to experience on this earth is a foretaste of what he will experience in full in eternity: undisturbed fellowship with God.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.“ John 3:16
